FIELD: machine building.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a stub shaft or steering knuckle assembly and, consequently, to a bearing unit, in particular but not exclusively, in the applications implying bidirectional impact axial loads and radial loads, and to conveyor idlers that comprise a hub assembly. An end face hub (31) assembly for conveyor idlers (33) comprises an end face hub (31) fitted by a casing suitable for being received in the end of a hollow tubular shell (32) of the idlers (33). The hub (31) casing is fitted by a ring-shaped groove (35) on its outer surface which can receive a radially deformed or compressed end of the shell (32) to connect the shell (32) with the hub (31). The end face hub (31) assembly comprises also a blind slot (37) in the said main casing of the hub (31) and a stub shaft (30) assembly to support the said hub (31). The stub shaft (30) assembly comprises a main casing and a bearing unit (10) set in the slot (37). The unit (10) comprises the first and the second spaced-apart bearings each of which includes an inner raceway formed in or on the main casing and an opposite outer raceway, and sets of rotating or roller bearing elements installed between the respective inner and outer raceways. The unit (10) is adapted to resist both the radial and axial loads in opposite directions.

EFFECT: presentation of conveyor idler assembly which comprises a hub assembly and a stub shaft assembly and which are of smaller weight as compared to standard conveyor idlers but which do not deteriorate the durability and wear resistance of the standard idlers.
