FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to surgery, and may be used for identification and separation of the upper mesenteric vein in proximal pancreatectomy. The upper mesenteric vein is separated under a mesentery of a transverse colon. Subcutaneous fat is tunnelled with a finger or a dissector. The transverse colon is abducted downwards. Peritoneum is dissected at a base of the mesentery of the transverse colon in a lesser peritoneal cavity. A holder is inserted into the created tunnel above the upper mesenteric vein. The upper wall of the upper mesenteric vein is visualised above the holder. Tissues above the vein which is continuously controlled are dissected. A stem of the upper mesenteric vein is separated up to the lower border of the pancreas.
EFFECT: method provides reducing a risk of vein injuries.
