SUBSTANCE: invention relates to television systems and specifically to remote control of a multimedia device. Identification (ID) information is received to identify a particular electronic device when a multimedia device is connected to a particular electronic device which is selected from one or more electronic devices which can be connected to the multimedia device. A code value corresponding to a function provided by the particular electronic device corresponding to the ID information is then processed and a graphic image is output for displaying a function associated with the particular electronic device. A first indicator to be displayed within the graphic image and converted to a second indicator when it deviates from the boundaries of the graphic image is controlled. When the first indicator selects a particular function in the graphic using a remote control device, the code value corresponding to the selected particular function is sent to the remote control device.
EFFECT: controlling different types of devices based on different communication protocols, while minimising memory usage of the remote control device.
