SUBSTANCE: invention relates to determination of sludge volume in crude oil tanks. Proposed method comprises steps that follow. Radiating of pulse tone signal at initial angle of vertical scanning in crude oil and reflection of reflected tone echo-signals by horizontal acoustic antenna. Shaping of time sequence of tone echo-signals, detection of time sequence and memorising the detection results. Radiating of pulse tone signal at next angle of vertical scanning in crude oil and reflection of reflected tone echo-signals by horizontal acoustic antenna. Shaping of time sequence of tone echo-signals. Detection of time sequence and memorising the detection results. Radiating of pulse tone signal at initial angle of vertical scanning in crude oil and reflection of reflected tone echo-signals by horizontal acoustic antenna. Shaping of time sequence of tone echo-signals. Computation of time sequence correlation of complex echo-signals and complex acoustic signal and memorising of the result. Radiating of complex pulse tone signal at next angle of vertical scanning in crude oil. Receipt of reflected complex echo-signals by horizontal acoustic antenna. Shaping of time signals of complex echo-signals, computation of correlation of time sequence of complex echo-signals and complex acoustic signal, and memorising of correlation result. Determination of time of signals from correlation results of preset magnitude. Removal of signals from detection results which correspond to definite times of signals from correlation results of preset magnitude. Computation of coordinates to sludge sediments for remaining signals and volume of sludge sediments.
