FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to electric engineering and may be used in remote ground fault protection systems in power transmission lines. The remote ground fault protection method consists of the following stages: measurement of a local source impedance on the basis of fault component at both ends (M, N) of a power transmission line when ground fault occurs; dispatch of the local source impedance from the first end of the line to the second one; setting the protection criterion at the second end of the line on the basis of measured impedance of the local source; assessment of ground fault as internal or external fault in compliance with the set criterion of the protection.
EFFECT: improving protection reliability due to prevention of overestimation or underestimation indifference between current angles at the point of ground fault occurrence and at the relay at shutdown when the protection is active.
