SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a wireless communication systems. The system and method provide single-frequency, dual cell high-speed downlink packet access to a UMTS telecommunication system. A first downlink channel is provided from a first sector, and a second downlink channel is provided from a second sector, wherein the first downlink channel and the second downlink channel are at substantially the same carrier frequency. Feedback information such as a CQI and/or a PCI is provided on an uplink channel. The uplink carrier may be at the same or a different carrier frequency than that of the downlink channels.
