FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: cast iron melt is subjected to thermal analysis. First and second container 1, are filled with cast iron melt samples, each container being provided with thermocouple 3, 4 connected with analytical hardware 5. Predefined amount of modifying agent 5 describing saturation with the latter in every particular casting is place in one container prior to filling with cast iron. Recorded are first and second melt crystallisation curves for first and second containers. Amount of modifier to be added to the melt at this very casting process is defined proceeding from the difference between minimum eutectic temperature (TElow) on first cooling curve and minimum eutectic temperature (TElow) on second curve.
EFFECT: reliable determination of added modifier amount.
