FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves controlling and correcting cast iron melt content to provide required amount of structure modifying reactant; taking melt samples by means of container provided with two temperature-sensitive members, one of members being positioned in central part of container and other member adjacent to container wall. Container wall contains or is covered with layer of material reducing concentration of solved unbound magnesium or other modifying reactant in melt adjacent to wall and temperature-sensitive member adjacent to wall by 0.003%; registering values obtained by means of two temperature-sensitive devices and being indicatives of dependence of temperature on time. Flat portion on temperature curve registered by temperature-sensitive member arranged adjacent to container wall allows data on settling of plated graphite adjacent to container wall to be obtained, concentration of modifying reactant to be corrected and compact crystals to be produced during the whole pouring time required for the given casting process. EFFECT: increased efficiency, simplified method and provision for producing cast iron with improved composition. 5 cl, 3 dwg
