FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: potential energy storage system contains multiple rail vehicles (22), with engine-generator (102) driven bogies (76) and a structure (88, 90) with the built-in transport mechanism (80, 86, 87) for transporting of energy storage masses with a possibility of their unloading from the first storage yard (12) at the lower mark to the second storage yard (10) at the upper mark.
EFFECT: system uses excessive energy of electrical network for starting of motors, unloading of masses at the second storage yard for energy storage, back reception of masses and returning of masses from the second storage yard to the first storage yard with regeneration of the electric power using the generators.
