NA URAKOVA'S METHOD FOR ANTENATAL ASSESSMENT OF FOETAL ADAPTATION TO REPEATED HYPOXIA Russian patent published in 2014 - IPC A61B8/00

Abstract RU 2529377 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: starting from the 36th week of pregnancy, the foetal state is assessed for many days at least every 7 days to determine a time of onset of the breathing movements of foetal ribs during a sequence of following periods of short-time and reversible hypoxia. Hypoxia is simulated by breath holding by the pregnant woman. Each following assessment procedure involved breath holding by the pregnant woman several times every 2 minutes until the time of onset of the breathing movements of foetal ribs stabilises. A progression of the time of onset of the breathing movements of foetal ribs is determined, and the findings are analysed. If the repeated hypoxia is accompanied by keeping the time short, shortening or prolonging but to no more than 15 seconds, the foetal adaptation to the repeated hypoxia is considered to be poor. If the time tends to prolong or exceeds 15 or 30 s, the foetal adaptation to the repeated hypoxia is considered to be satisfactory or good. The final conclusion is drawn, and a mode of delivery is chosen in accordance with the final assessment results.

EFFECT: method provides antenatal assessment of foetal adaptation reserves to repeated hypoxia periods, foetal adaptation to repeated hypoxia, and birth of a live and healthy baby with no signs of intranatal asphyxia.
