FIELD: weapons and ammunition.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of engineering and can be used for manufacture of gun barrels of 14.5 mm calibre. To improve the quality and performance characteristics of the barrel the preform of the barrel is produced from alloyed steel, composed of alloying elements combined provide a high position of the critical point of AC1, the upper limit of the carbon content in which is limited to 0.3 wt %. The preform is subjected to heat treatment of the predetermined complex of mechanical properties, including hardening is carried out, providing a high cooling rate in the pearlite temperature range with the suppression of process of carbide precipitation along the austenite grain boundaries. The mechanical treatment of the outer and inner surfaces of the barrel preform is carried out. The shot travel and the cartridge chamber are formed. The galvanic chrome of certain thickness is deposited on the surface of the barrel channel on the fields and grooves using a DC source with pulsation of current rate and voltage not exceeding 1% of the nominal. After galvanic chroming the barrel is subjected to release at a given temperature for stabilization of chromium plating.
