FIELD: measuring instrumentation.
SUBSTANCE: method of product thickness measurement by ultrasonic impulses involves emission of ultrasonic impulses by ultrasonic converter, registration of probing pulse emission to the product, registration of the moment the first reflected echo impulse front escapes the product at a level above parasitic noise of converter, determination of time interval between two records, calculation of thickness by this time interval and known speed of sound in the product material; from the moment of registration of the first reflected echo impulse front escaping the product at a level above parasitic noise of converter with a lag of 0.25-0.5 of the converter resonance frequency oscillation period, a moment of registration of the first reflected echo impulse front escaping the product at a level above parasitic noise of amplifier yet below parasitic noise of converter is registered, time interval between probing pulse emission moment and this moment is determined and used to calculate the product thickness.
EFFECT: improved precision of product thickness measurement and stability of precision parameters of instruments.
