FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method includes heating a sample to melting and stopping heating when the outline deviates from an ellipsoidal shape; exposing the droplet to mechanical vibrations and continuing to heat until deviation of the outline from an ellipsoidal shape is eliminated; stopping heating and mechanical vibrations, wherein the vibrations have an audio frequency, e.g., a multiple of mains frequency; furthermore, an adjustable rod is exposed to mechanical vibrations; the method also includes exposure to vibrations from an electromechanical generator. The apparatus includes a mechanical vibration source, a means of transmitting mechanical vibrations, attached by one end to the mechanical vibration source and by the other end to the adjustable rod through an adjustable element. The vibration source used is a power transformer and the means of transmitting vibrations is connected perpendicular to the rod. The means of transmitting mechanical vibrations is in the form of a metal rod. The adjustable element is in the form of a clamp.
EFFECT: enabling removal of a film from the surface of a molten sample, obtaining and maintaining the required shape of the sample for subsequent determination of density and surface tension of multicomponent molten metal.
