FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: described is a method of obtaining melamine by the decomposition of urea with the application of a catalyst, containing 15-40 wt % of zeolite, which has a low content of nickel and vanadium, 50-85 wt % of a matrix, which contains silicon dioxide, aluminium oxide, silicon-aluminium-oxides and/or clay minerals, and 0-10 wt % of inorganic oxides, with the total content of nickel and vanadium in the catalyst constituting less than 500 ppm, and an average size of the catalyst d50 particles is in the area less than 300 mcm.
EFFECT: method achieves higher conversion in the melamine synthesis with the simultaneous reduction of the catalyst abrasion index.
