FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: optical probe system has a probe with an optical guide (G) with a distal end. The optical guide (G) is installed in a housing (H) such that the distal end can move relative to the housing (H). A set (A) of drives, e.g. electromagnetic drive coils, can move the distal end by supplying a drive signal (Vx, Vy). A control unit (CU) generates a drive signal (Vx, Vy) to provide a scanning frequency which varies according to the amplitude of the drive signal (Vx, Vy), and such that the amplitude of the drive signal (Vx, Vy) varies during scanning in a field of view. The drive signal transmitted to the set of drives is generated such that scanning frequency varies such that shorter radii are scanned at a higher frequency than longer radii, and scanning frequency at shorter radii is higher than the resonance frequency of the optical guide (G). With such a probe system, it is possible to scan a field of view with a scanning frequency which varies according to the scanning radius.
EFFECT: high rate of scanning.
