FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of determining spatial coordinates based on optical recording circuits, and specifically to shadow circuits for determining the position of a test object during high-speed movement, and can be used to determine spatial coordinates of a test object in studies in aerodynamics, ballistics etc. Unlike the existing method, which includes mounting photographic cameras in a given section of the trajectory of the test object before beginning tests, launching the test object, recording the image of the moving test object, determining the spatial coordinates thereof by decoding the obtained image and solving generalised equations, the disclosed method includes, before beginning tests, mounting in a given section of the trajectory of the test object at one optical axis a point light source, a semitransparent screen and, behind the screen relative to the point light source, a photographic camera with a shutter with an electro-optical converter, determining coordinates of the centre of the light source and three reference points of the screen in a given measurement system, after launching the test object, recording the image of the shadow of the moving test object on the screen, and determining spatial coordinates by decoding the obtained image of the shadow of the moving test object and solving generalised similarity equations.

EFFECT: determining spatial coordinates of a high-speed test object based on photographic recording results, said recording being performed at any time of the day in the presence of background lighting by one camera without further marking of the test object and calibration of the camera itself on a special stand.
