FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method involves recording the shock wave generated by supersonic motion of an object and propagating in space in form of a Mach cone, in several measurement points with known coordinates which form a spatial figure, using the results of recording the shock wave to determine the delay of propagation of the shock wave to each measurement point relative the measurement point chosen as the reference, calculating coordinates of points in which the object must be located when the shock wave reaches each measurement point using suitable motion parametres, calculating time intervals required by the object to traverse the distance between calculated points and comparing the values with defined delay of propagation of the shock wave to each measurement point. The trajectory and speed of the object are those parametres for which the difference between the calculated time and defined delay is minimal. In certain cases, the value of the speed of the object may be defined from radar location results or from shock wave measurement results.
EFFECT: reliable determination of motion parametres of the object.
