FIELD: physics, computer engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a network, particularly an Ethernet network. The technical result is achieved through an Ethernet network which contains as network elements at least two network components (4A, 4B) which are interconnected by a network transmission line (2). According to the invention, at least one expansion unit (1) having two external ports (A, B) is placed in the network line (2) for increasing the range thereof, wherein the expansion unit (1) forwards a failure of the network transmission line (2) at one of the ports (A, B) thereof to a port (B or A) of the next network element (network component 4A or 4B).

EFFECT: facilitating fast and reliable switching upon failure of one network transmission line through an expansion unit for network transmission lines which, upon failure of a network transmission line, facilitates fast switching in the network.
