FIELD: radio engineering, communication.

SUBSTANCE: coupled communication lines, which include multiple communication line components which are coupled together, are connected to realise communication over coupled communication lines using a bandwidth which is available for communication line components. A cross-switching functionality determines if the received communication traffic should be directed to one or more of the local area communication network and connected coupled communication lines. The received communication traffic is redirected according to said determination. Local area communication networks can include ring networks, linear networks or both. In some versions, coupled communication lines and communication lines between nodes in a local area communication network are coupled with a DSL line.

EFFECT: wider coverage of DSL service while maintaining bandwidth.
