FIELD: physics, navigation.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to detection of objects in the atmosphere, primarily low-visibility objects, and measurement of coordinates of said objects. The method for remote optical detection based on vapour trail characteristics in the atmosphere includes providing optimum viewing positions while mounting receiving stations of an angular coordinate measurement system on-board unmanned helicopters patrolling above clouds. The travelling speed of the front, albedo and shape of the artificial cloud represent the vapour trail, and the position and motion parameters of the object are determined from the measured angles of the front of the vapour trail using an angle measurement method.
EFFECT: implementing remote passive location and calculation of motion parameters of objects with minimal errors, wider surveillance area.
