SUBSTANCE: invention relates to cellular communication engineering and can be used to locate a terminal in the coverage area of a wireless communication network. The system comprises at least one fixed node, which includes measuring the complex frequency characteristic of a radio link between a terminal and one of the fixed nodes and determining the location of the terminal based at least on comparing data representing a first set of indicators of the measured complex frequency characteristic and data representing a plurality of recorded sets of indicators, each relating to one of a plurality of different points in the network coverage area, and each recorded set of indicators represents the complex frequency characteristic measured by one of the fixed nodes and a point in the network coverage area to which said set of indicators relates.
EFFECT: high accuracy of location.
