FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: device comprises a holder in the form of a flexible (solid or hollow) rod, a wind receiver, for example, in the form of a sphere or cylinder and placed in line with the holder at the free end thereof, an optical sensor of the deviation of the wind receiver and a computing-measurement unit. The sensor is in the form of two sections and optical fibre coated with Bragg gratings. The sections reflect different spectral components of incident radiation and are attached by one end to the holder such that during deviation of the wind receiver in any direction, at least one of the sections experiences longitudinal deformation. Deformation of the sections causes corresponding shifts of the reflected spectrum, from which the unit determines wind speed and direction. The sections and optical fibres can be attached along the holder at portions of its lateral surface lying at an angle α relative to each other. If a cover is available or if a hollow wind receiver which can be displaced is used, the sections can be attached across the holder. In that case, one end of the section is attached to the surface of the holder and the other to the inner surface of the cover or wind receiver. Crosswise attachment of sections can be carried out directly or through cantilever elements.
