SUBSTANCE: in the method at least one check mark is made on the web of the packaging material by means of physical and chemical changing the surface of the web in the workplace, located downstream to the control point. The web is fed through the control point for determining the position of the mark on it. Then the web is fed through the cutting point located downstream behind the control point, for cutting the sheet from the web which position along the web depends on the position of the mark, and the sheet is fed to the point of packaging for folding, to form the package around the respective group of cigarettes. The method additionally comprises applying a layer of colouring pigment on web part, at that the colouring pigment forms an additional surface layer, and making a check mark in the colouring pigment part by removing its part. The cigarette-packing machine comprises a device for producing a series of sheets from a web of packaging material and the packaging device for folding each sheet about a respective group of cigarettes. The device also comprises a device for physical and chemical changing the surface of the web to make a check mark on the web for each sheet. The machine comprises a printing device located downstream the device to apply a layer of colouring pigment on the web part, and the device for physical and chemical changing the surface of the web is made for obtaining the check mark in the colouring pigment part by removing a part of the colouring pigment from the web.
EFFECT: group of inventions provides diversification of the applied marks and increase in productivity.
