FIELD: measurement equipment.

SUBSTANCE: resonant frequencies of separate elements of a structure vary, if glaze ice deposits are formed on them. Variations of the frequency of separate resonant harmonics are proportionate to the attached mass of ice. Apart from variation of frequency of resonant harmonics, glaze ice deposits increase decrement of attenuation of sonic oscillations of structure elements, since glaze ice deposits represent an absorbing medium for sonic oscillations. A system to measure thickness and density of glaze ice deposits comprises a device of excitation of a wave of sonic range of frequencies in the structure and a receiving device, as well as amplifiers of received signals, an analogue-to-digital converter and a spectrum analyser connected to a computer. The excitation device is fixed on the structure and includes the following components made as capable of autonomous operation: a noise generator with a connected piezoceramic vibrator tuned for the medium resonant frequency of amplitude-frequency characteristic of the structure, and receiving devices also fixed on the structure are made in the form of vibration sensors.

EFFECT: development of the method and the device providing for continuous monitoring of characteristics of glaze ice deposits at certain intervals, which makes it possible to determine their thickness and density.
