SUBSTANCE: invention relates to geophysical survey with a controlled source. The method comprises steps of: deploying at least one receiver and an electric dipole source; transmitting an electromagnetic field from the electric dipole source; detecting a first horizontal component and a second horizontal component of the electromagnetic field response to the transmitted electric field using at least one receiver, and calculating the vertical component of the electromagnetic field response using the detected first and second horizontal components of the electromagnetic field response, wherein said first and second horizontal components are combined.

EFFECT: high accuracy of determining vertical components of electromagnetic field response.
