FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: apparatus has a transmitter which generates current pulses in water (2) through a submerged vertical or horizontal transmitting cable (7a, 7b), which ends with transmitting electrodes (8), and a recording subsystem (9) connected to electrodes (11) on vertical or horizontal receiving cables (10a, 10b). The transmitter generates a special sequence of electric current pulses having an abrupt ending, and the electric field in the water is measured in the periods between these pulses. Each line passing between receiving electrodes lies in the same vertical plane as the end of the transmitting cable (7a, 7b). Measurements are taken with distance between the transmitting cable (7a, 7b) and the receiving cables (10a, 10b) less than the depth of the target object (hydrocarbon reservoir) measured from the sea bed (3).
EFFECT: high sensitivity with respect to target objects containing hydrocarbons and possibility of survey on shallow water.
