FIELD: physics; measurement.
SUBSTANCE: present invention pertains to geophysics. A cable for imaging subsurface conductivity contains several flexible sensor modules. Each sensor module contains a flexible cover, containing several sensors of different types which include at least an electrical sensor or magnetic sensor. Each module is put into a cable at a chosen distance from others. The sensor modules are connected to a flexible medium. The cable is flexible and can be wound on a bobbin. The imaging method involves obtaining direct current measurement results in several locations, obtaining the first set of results of electric and magnetic measurements using natural electromagnetic fields on several locations, obtaining a second set of results of electric and magnetic measurements using controlled electric and magnetic sources in several locations, and determination of distribution of subsurface conductivity from direct current measurements and from the first set and second set of results of electric and magnetic measurements.
EFFECT: obtaining reliable and detailed information on subsurface conductivity.
