FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrical engineering. The differential protection device contains the differential noise measurement and processing circuits for providing of a disconnecting signal (D) to an executive mechanism (4). The detection module (13) detects high power signals (11, 12) disturbing the differential current measurement. The shutdown circuit (14) connected to the detection module (13) disconnects the feeding of the disconnecting signal when the detection module detects existence of high power signals (11, 12). Existence of high power signals (11, 12) is detected by tracking of absence of the measuring signal passing near zero (Ids) within the pre-set time interval (TI). The differential protection method comprises the stages at which the high power signals disturbing the measurement of differential current measurement signal are detected, and disconnection is cancelled when the measurement is disturbed by high power signals.
EFFECT: increase of level of protection from current noises.
