SUBSTANCE: invention is used in electrical engineering. The method involves the following stages: measuring values of current and voltage at undamaged phase conductors in a transmission line in real time when a single-phase fault occurs; computing values of inductive voltage and capacitive joint voltage based on measured values of current and voltage; comparing the value of capacitive joint voltage with the value of inductive voltage multiplied by a coefficient, at that the product is used as a self-regulated threshold value considering load conditions of the power transmission line in real time; and identifying the fault type based on results of the comparison.
EFFECT: improving reliability.
