FIELD: physics, navigation.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed engineering solutions relate to radar and can be used in radar stations for protection from synchronous repeater jamming. In the first version of the target recognition method, based on estimation of the radar cross section of the target, upon detecting a relationship between the radar cross section estimate and range, a decision is made that said target is a decoy target generated through synchronous repeater jamming. Said result is achieved due to that in a second version of the target recognition method, based on measuring the power level of a received signal, the power level of detected signals at different ranges is compared; a decision is made that the target is a decoy target generated via synchronous repeater jamming if the ratio of power levels of the signals does not depend on the range or the law of variation of said ratio differs from the fourth power of the ratio of the ranges.
EFFECT: recognising synchronous repeater jamming signals and signals reflected from a target.
