FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: tool is immersed into a salt melt, heated up to the temperature of thermal treatment and then cooled, herewith the salt melt in a bath is deoxidised by titanium. The novelty consists in the fact that the melt layer contacting with the tool is deoxidised, for this purpose prior to be immersed in the salt melt, the tool is packed into titanium foil so that the distance between the titanium foil and the tool surface does not exceed 5 mm.
EFFECT: improved quality of tool surfaces due to increased efficiency of titanium action at melt deoxidising, especially the quality of surface of sharp tool edges along with keeping their high hardness.
