FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: method for local nanocrystallisation of glass includes irradiation with a focused beam of a copper vapour laser with average power of 5-15 W, while moving the beam on the surface of the sample with speed of 10-200 mcm/s, heating the glass to temperature lower than the glass transition temperature by 5-30°C. The glass has the following composition, wt %: Li2O 1.3-2.3, Na2O 1.5-2.7, Ga2O3 32.5-37.9, SiO2 7.0-21.2, GeO2 37.0-56.5, NiO 0.05-0.8.

EFFECT: invention enables to conduct a self-limiting process of forming local regions in gallium-containing oxide glass with a width of more than 100 mcm with a higher refraction index, said regions containing nanocrystals and fluorescing in a wide wavelength range of 1150-1700 nm in the near-infrared region.
