FIELD: optical materials science.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of optical materials science, to a method for modifying glass in volume under the action of femtosecond laser radiation. The method for laser modification of glass for recording information includes local irradiation of glass composition, wt.%: 3.85 CdS; 22.16 K2O; 19.27 ZnO; 3.86 B2O3; 50.86 SiO2 with a beam of femtosecond radiation of the near IR range, focused through an objective with a numerical aperture of 0.45-0.65, with the formation of microregions, while recording microregions that have both luminescence, including partially polarized, and polarization-dependent birefringence, and for recording, pulses in the amount of 5⋅103÷106 with linear polarization, duration 180-900 fs, energy 100÷600 nJ and repetition rate 50-200 kHz are used.
EFFECT: formation in the glass of microregions, which simultaneously have luminescence, including partially polarized, and polarization-dependent birefringence, to increase the density of information recording.
