SUBSTANCE: invention relates to road and railway freight transport means. Cargo-bearing lateral adapter (1) consists of multiple support elements (5), preferably rectangular, mounted for free turn at every its end to rest on flat bearing surface (13) fixed relative to said load platform and to extend outward as extensions over the rest of their length. Said extension comprises the guard and can displace between unfolded position whereat it makes a thrust surface (14) for passage of people and folded position of smaller width. Changeover from one position to another is executed via common turn in horizontal plane. Invention can be used in production of motor road and railway equipment manufacturers.
