FIELD: radio engineering, communication.

SUBSTANCE: method includes coating the surface of "own" or "ally" ground equipment with a coating which eliminates infrared radiation in the space around said equipment in a certain wavelength range in which "hostile" ground equipment emits. A thermal imaging camera receives radiation only in the wavelength range in which emission by the "own" or "ally" ground equipment in the surrounding space is prevented by said coating. Light-sensitive elements of the infrared detector of the thermal imaging camera are connected through a device for picking up electrical signals generated by the light-sensitive elements of the infrared detector of the thermal imaging camera to an analyser which outputs an "own" signal if there is no electrical signal from at least one light-sensitive element of the infrared detector of the thermal imaging camera received at the analyser.

EFFECT: automatic identification of any "own", "ally" or "hostile" ground equipment in the field of vision of a thermal imaging camera and determination of the angular position of said equipment in the object space of the thermal imaging camera.
