FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: method is intended to determine whether any ground equipment in the range of direct visibility of a viewer and in the range of a thermal imager belongs to any of the three classes: "own", "ally" or "alien", with or without one optical feature class, which is universal for any type of equipment, in the image on the television screen of the investigated equipment, which is clearly, visually distinguished by the viewer. The surface of equipment belonging to the "own" and "ally" classes has special coatings which eliminate infrared radiation of equipment of these classes into the surrounding space in different wavelength intervals defined for these classes. An image is displayed on the thermal imager screen which alternately receives radiation only in the wavelength interval in which radiation is eliminated by the coating of equipment in the "own" class, or only in the wavelength interval in which radiation is eliminated by the coating of the equipment in the "ally" class, as an area on the screen which is not illuminated, in contrast to display on the thermal imager screen in form of a heat signature with illumination sections of different brightness both of the surface of "alien" equipment and the display of any other surfaces radiating in the wavelength interval received by the thermal imager.
