SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of treating spent nuclear fuel. The disclosed method includes purifying uranium and plutonium present in an aqueous nitric acid phase, combined re-extraction of uranium and plutonium into the aqueous nitric acid phase, separating uranium and plutonium present in the aqueous nitric acid phase obtained earlier, selective extraction of all or part of uranium (VI) into a water-immiscible organic phase, re-extracting uranium into the aqueous nitric acid phase and purifying plutonium or the mixture of uranium and plutonium present in the aqueous phase obtained by extraction.
EFFECT: preventing the need for reductive re-extraction of plutonium.
