FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to compositions of oxide sacrificial materials for devices for catching a broken down nuclear reactor core and means of preventing fires and accumulation of explosive gases. The present invention provides use of a mixture, which includes a hematite mixture containing sintered granules of iron oxide, aluminium oxide and silicon oxide as a coarse component, and fine aluminium oxide, and an aluminium-calcium mixture, which contains calcium mono- and dialuminate, in the following ratio, wt %: hematite mixture - 70-85, aluminium-calcium mixture- 15-30, wherein the weight ratio of iron oxide and aluminium oxide in the hematite mixture is in the range of 4.5:1.0 to 1.0:1.0, and the weight ratio of the calcium mono- and dialuminate in the aluminium-calcium mixture is in the range of 1:4 to 1:5. The oxide material includes said mixture and water in the following ratio, wt %: oxide mixture - 100%, water - 8-13.5% (over 100%).
EFFECT: high reliability and explosion safety of a nuclear reactor owing to the preparation of a mixture and oxide material with lower water content.
