FIELD: physics, acoustics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to acoustic direction-finding methods and can be used in geoacoustics, geophysics, nondestructive inspection of strength of objects and hydroacoustics. Detection and determination of the direction of arrival of pulsed signals of geoacoustic emission in the audio frequency range are carried out using a composite receiver, mounted in an aquatic medium at the bottom of water bodies. Acoustic pressure P(t) and three mutually orthogonal components of the gradient of the acoustic pressure ∇Px(t), ∇Py(t), ∇Pz(t) are measured. Based on conditions of propagation of signals in the medium and the dynamic range of the receiving circuit, undistorted pulses are selected in a certain amplitude interval dA, the direction of arrival of the wave is determined for each pulse and the azimuthal pulse frequency distribution D(α, t) is estimated.
EFFECT: invention enables to evaluate presence of inhomogeneities and azimuthal configuration thereof in the investigated region of a medium.
