FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: to detect activation of regional deformation processes, particularly caused by imminent strong earthquakes, a system is used to detect geoacoustic emissions in the frequency range of 0.1 Hz to 10-20 kHz, which includes a piezoceramic hydrophone mounted at the bottom of natural and manmade water bodies. A high-frequency geoacoustic precursor, which precedes an earthquake by several days to several hours is a signal anomaly in the frequency subbands: 600-2000 Hz, 2000-6500 Hz, higher than 6500 Hz; which exceeds average daily values by not less than four times with duration of not less than 15 minutes.
EFFECT: high accuracy of prediction.
