FIELD: seismology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of seismology and can be used to detect a short-term earthquakes precursor. Substance: a piezoceramic hydrophone is installed at the bottom of a body of water, and a multi-channel VLF recorder is installed on the shore of the body of water near the hydrophone. Signals in the range of 0.0001 to 10 kHz are continuously recorded by means of the hydrophone and in the range of 0.3 to 10 kHz - by means of the VLF recorder. Anomalies are detected, manifesting in both ranges as an increase in more than 4 times in the ratio of the amount of pulses with a low number of local extrema to the number of pulses with a large number of local extrema within an observation period from one to several hours.
EFFECT: increased reliability of detection of a possible earthquake.
