FIELD: measurement equipment.
SUBSTANCE: readings of a measuring device are determined as per values of breakdown voltage of a standard discharge instrument that is represented by a dielectric for different distances between electrodes, which is placed in vacuum between two electrodes. One of the electrodes is fixed, and one end face of the dielectric is mechanically attached to it. The second electrode made from elastic conducting material and provided with a movement device is moved along the dielectric surface to some distance from the fixed electrode. Distance is measured. High-voltage pulses are supplied to the electrodes. Amplitude of each next pulse is increased till there is breakdown along the dielectric surface. Reading of the measuring instrument is recorded at breakdown. Then, the second electrode is again moved along the dielectric surface to another distance from the fixed electrode. Distance is measured again and high-voltage pulses are supplied to the electrodes, thus increasing amplitude of each next pulse till there is discharge along the dielectric surface. Readings of the measuring instrument are recorded again at discharge. The same procedure is repeated for at least 5-7 times; after that, a calibration chart is built up as per readings of the measuring instrument.
EFFECT: simpler implementation; lower labour costs.
