FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: light spot is formed on a horizontal surface using a computer-controlled light emitter. The test subject is positioned at a given distance from the edge of the slight spot. The direction and speed of the light spot are varied in a programmed manner over a given period of time in a manner that is unpredictable for the test subject. The test subject evaluates movement of the light spot and changes their position in order to remain at the given distance from the edge of the light spot. Movements of the light spot and the test subject are recorded by a video camera situated at a given height over the horizontal surface. The video image is transmitted to a computer. The computer calculates the distance from the edge of the light spot to the test subject periodically with a given period from the moment the direction or speed of the light spot changes. The accuracy of perception of distance of the test subject is estimated based on the arithmetic mean value.
EFFECT: method improves the accuracy of evaluating the accuracy of human perception of distance based on results of combined operation of the visual, vestibular and muscular analysers and the motor apparatus of the person.
