SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a communication system, particularly designed to collect utility meter readings across a geographical area. Disclosed is a terminal for communication with a communication satellite, comprising: a first transceiver for communicating with a device on a short-haul network; a second transceiver for communicating with a geostationary communication satellite on a network in which a plurality of direct channels for transmitting data from the communication satellite to said terminal and a plurality of return channels for transmitting data from the terminal to said communication satellite are deployed, wherein the second transceiver is configured to transmit data from said device via one of said plurality of return channels.
EFFECT: high communication efficiency.
