SUBSTANCE: invention relates to cellular radio communication. Methods and an apparatus are provided for transmitting and processing reference signals in a mobile communication system. A base station determines a reference signal pattern containing at least one resource element, generates an indicator with a bitmap indicating whether zero transmission power is allocated to at least one resource element of the reference signal pattern and transmits the reference signal pattern and the indicator with a bitmap to a terminal. The terminal receives the reference signal pattern and the indicator with a bitmap and processes the reference signal retrieved in accordance with the reference signal pattern and the indicator with a bitmap.

EFFECT: reduced interference in a received reference signal.
