FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: electrostatic lens consists of three axially symmetrical cylindrical electrodes. The lens is characterised by that it has electric power supply which is asymmetric relative to the middle electrode. At fixed potential values of the outermost electrodes, the focal distance of the lens is a bell-shaped function with a marked maximum from the potential of the middle electrode. Owing to mathematical laws at the maximum point, the focal distance is determined by variations of the potential of the middle electrode only in the second order of smallness, which is a sign of a stable focus.
EFFECT: improved focusing properties.
