SUBSTANCE: method for deoxygenation of biomass-derived pyrolysis oil includes the following steps: merging a stream (12) of biomass-derived pyrolysis oil with a recycle stream (16) of a heated diluent in the form of pyrolysis oil with low oxygen content to form an initial stream (18) of heated diluted pyrolysis oil, having an initial temperature of 150°C or higher, and the initial stream (18) of heated diluted pyrolysis oil is contacted with a first deoxygenation catalyst in the presence of hydrogen under first hydrotreatment conditions which are effective to form an output stream (22) of biomass-derived pyrolysis oil with low oxygen content.
EFFECT: reduced formation of a vitreous brown polymer or carbon residue on the catalyst.
