FIELD: radio engineering, communication.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an architecture for networked communication between different medical devices and remote monitoring devices. An interface circuit of each medical device communicates with one of relay modules via a wireless relay network. The relay modules communicate with the remote monitoring devices over an internet-accessible wireless communication network. Each relay module includes a receiver, a first transmitter, a second transmitter and a controller. The controller determines the status of the internet-accessible wireless communication network. When the status indicates that the internet-accessible wireless communication network is accessible to the wireless relay module, the second transmitter is selected for transmitting data from the medical devices. When the internet-accessible wireless communication network is not accessible, the first transmitter is selected for transmitting the data to another wireless relay module.

EFFECT: facilitating networking between different medical devices and remote monitoring devices.
