SUBSTANCE: invention relates to acoustics. A device for determining the position of an audio source is configured to receive signals from an array of microphones, and a reference processor generates at least three reference beams with different directional properties. An estimation processor generates simultaneous direction estimates for two audio sources and comprises a circuit which combines signals of at least three reference beams with a beam shape parameter which determines the shape of the sound beam, and a beam direction parameter which determines the direction of the sound beam for the combined signal. The device comprises a cost processor which calculates a cost metric which characterises the energy of the combined signal, and a minimisation processor which estimates the value of the beam shape parameter and the beam direction parameter based on a local minimum of the cost value. The direction processor determines simultaneous direction estimates for two audio sources from parameter values obtained earlier.
EFFECT: high accuracy of estimating the direction of an audio source.
