FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method includes oxidising cumene with an oxygen-containing gas in a liquid phase into cumene hydroperoxide with a dimethylphenyl carbinol impurity, with removal of excess cumene from the reaction mass, followed by treatment of the oxidation product with aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution with a given ratio of the aqueous phase to the organic phase and decomposition thereof at high temperature. Treatment of all of the oxidation product or part thereof with aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution is carried out with the ratio of the aqueous phase to the organic phase greater than 10.
EFFECT: method increases conversion of alkyl aromatic hydrocarbons while maintaining high selectivity of the process and a high safety level.
